Woman comes out as abrosexual after 30-year journey

Abrosexuality describes a fluid sexual orientation where a person’s attraction shifts over time. This lesser-known identity is gaining visibility thanks to personal stories like that of Emma Flint, a writer from Staffordshire, England.

In a 2024 article for Metro UK, Flint shared her 30-year journey of confusion and discovery. For years, she identified at different times as a lesbian, bisexual, or felt no attraction at all. She often felt lost and misunderstood—until she came across the term “abrosexual” online. For the first time, she felt recognized.

According to Healthline, abrosexuality isn’t tied to attraction to specific genders, but rather the changing nature of that attraction—day-to-day or over long periods. Some abrosexual people may feel attraction to different genders at different times or experience phases of no attraction.

Flint emphasizes that this identity is valid, even if others don’t understand it. “Just because someone’s sexuality fluctuates doesn’t mean it’s less real,” she writes. Her story is a reminder of the importance of having the right words to describe our experiences—and that growth and self-discovery are lifelong processes.
