I Returned Home from Work to Find My Adopted Twin Daughters, 16, Had Changed the Locks and Kicked Me Out

Thirteen years ago, after my husband’s fatal car crash, I discovered he had a secret double life and twin daughters from another woman. Despite the shock of his betrayal, I adopted the girls, Carrie and Dana, who were only three years old. The years that followed were filled with love, but also hurt, as they struggled with their father’s lies and my inability to have children.
When they turned sixteen, they locked me out of the house with a note, asking for space. For a week, I feared they’d decided I wasn’t worth their love. But when they called, apologizing and revealing the surprise they’d been planning for months—renovating the house and saving money—I realized how much they truly cared. They thanked me for choosing them, even with all the pain, and I realized that despite everything, they had always known I loved them.
“You’ve always been the best mom,” they said, and in that moment, all the pain faded.
