Air India Flight 171: Survivor’s Tale, Pilot’s Final Words, And The Tragedy That Shocked The World

Air India Flight 171 Crash: What Happened and Updates

On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 carrying 244 people from Ahmedabad to London, crashed minutes after takeoff. The plane lost contact with air traffic control shortly after reaching 625 feet and sent a Mayday call before crashing into a medical college dorm in Ahmedabad. The crash killed 241 people, with only one survivor—British passenger Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who suffered injuries but escaped the wreckage.

The flight had 232 passengers (mostly Indian and British) and 12 crew members. Rescue teams quickly responded, and authorities are investigating possible causes such as mechanical failure or bird strikes. The pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, made a final Mayday call before the crash; he was a veteran pilot close to retirement.

The tragic accident has deeply affected families, with many victims from Mumbai and other parts of India and abroad. The airport remains closed as investigations continue. Among those who missed the flight by chance was Bhoomi Chauhan, a student who was stuck in traffic and could not board, narrowly escaping the disaster.

Leaders from India and the UK have expressed their condolences as the nation mourns this devastating event.
