Tragic Air India Crash: Pilot’s Final Words Revealed

A devastating tragedy struck India when an Air India flight, carrying 242 people, crashed just 30 seconds after takeoff near Ahmedabad Airport. The Boeing 787-8, flight number AI171, lost contact shortly after departure. Air India confirmed the crash and announced that only one person survived.

Out of 242 onboard, 241 were confirmed dead. The sole survivor is a 40-year-old British national, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, currently hospitalized. Victims included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Several people on the ground also lost their lives, as the plane crashed into a hostel for medical students.

The pilots, Sumeet Sabharwal and Clive Kundar, sent a final mayday call:
“Mayday… no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.”
Sabharwal had over 8,200 flight hours, and Kundar had 1,100.

This marks the first-ever crash of a Boeing 787. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause.
