JD Vance branded “tasteless” after comment about his wife
JD Vance: From Troubled Childhood to Vice President — Controversial Comment About His Wife Sparks Backlash
JD Vance, now Vice President of the United States, overcame a difficult childhood in Middletown, Ohio, where he was raised by his grandparents due to his mother’s drug addiction. After joining the Marine Corps, serving in Iraq, and later attending Yale Law School, he met Usha Chilukuri, his future wife. Usha, from a highly educated Indian-American family, became a crucial influence in Vance’s life. They married after graduation and now have three children.
Usha, a former lawyer who clerked at the Supreme Court, paused her career to support Vance during his political rise. She was by his side throughout the 2024 presidential race and now serves as Second Lady.
Recently, however, JD Vance sparked outrage during a public event in Michigan. While praising Usha, he joked, “The cameras are all on; anything I say, no matter how crazy, she has to smile, laugh, and celebrate it.” Usha was seen laughing, but social media exploded with criticism, calling the comment “demeaning,” “arrogant,” and “in poor taste.”
Some online users even questioned her well-being and accused Vance of being disrespectful. While intended as a joke, many saw it as inappropriate and controlling.
