3 New Fires Erupt Across 3 California Counties – Latest Details

Three new fires have erupted in California, in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Riverside counties, with efforts underway to contain them. Hughes Fire, Los Angeles County: The fire began on January 22, 2025, in the Castaic area, burning over 10,000 acres by January 23. Evacuations have been issued, with over 1,100 firefighters and aircraft deployed. The fire is being tackled by CAL FIRE, US Forest Service, and local agencies, and the evacuation center is at College of the Canyons East Gym.
Bernardo (Center) Fire, San Diego County: The fire started on January 22 in Rancho Bernardo, threatening structures. Air units have been used to contain the blaze, which burned seven acres. Evacuation orders were lifted by January 23, though road closures remain. Another fire, the Lilac Fire, had previously started in San Diego County, burning 85 acres and reaching 90% containment.
Clay Fire, Riverside County: The fire began in Jurupa Valley at 5 p.m. on January 22, burning 38 acres. Evacuation warnings were issued but lifted later the same evening, though residents were advised to remain cautious. The fire remains at 40% containment. Authorities are urging residents to stay prepared for possible evacuations.
With high winds and dry conditions, residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow evacuation orders if necessary.
